Hundreds of inspiring individuals will gather at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens at 6 p.m. March 25 for one special mission; to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis.

“At first when I was diagnosed seven years ago, I thought this was the end of my life. Then, when I met everyone in the committee, I knew I wasn’t alone, that there were other people just like me,” said Jennifer Calabro of Kenmore.

Calabro is a member of Change MS, a wellness foundation started by Tony Ferro of Elma to raise awareness of the autoimmune disease. Ferro was diagnosed with MS in 2012 and instead of feeling low about his diagnosis, he decided to launch a foundation that would change the lives of others. Change MS not only educates the public about multiple sclerosis, it also brings those with multiple sclerosis together like with the annual Change MS Masquerade Ball.

“This event means a lot to me because it helps connect people with MS to each other,” said Calabro. “I believe it’s important to create awareness, so other people realize MS isn’t a death sentence and that you are not alone. One day with the money Change MS raises, we will be able to find a cure. Together we are stronger as we all fight this disease together. I believe God only gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. I may have multiple sclerosis, but it doesn’t have me.”

Ferro says the masquerade ball symbolizes that MS and other autoimmune conditions are not obvious to everyone, which is why the mask is significant; you never know who is wearing what mask. For more information on the masquerade ball, visit www.changems.org.
