Sometimes you just make one special friend who you can tell right away has a generous and loving heart. That person for many is Mary Alloy of Just Pizza in Amherst, a business owner who does so much and never asks for any recognition, just a simple hug or thank you will do.
Today Alloy stopped by Niagara SPCA to sponsor sweet Darla, a beagle mix in need of a home. Niagara SPCA, as well as other local rescues, have a special place in Alloy’s heart because she adores animals. She gives back to these organizations by giving us what we all want and need – pizza! Alloy has donated thousands of pizzas to nonprofit organizations to help them further their mission and raise crucial funds. Organizations include Erie County SPCA, Stone’s Buddies, Make-A-Wish, Sweet Buffalo Rocks and so many more.
“It makes me feel special I guess. It’s all I can do is food. If I was a millionaire I would be volunteering at every single place that I donate to because that’s what I want to do. I feel like I’m put here for that reason,” she said.
Alloy often receives thank you letters and pictures from the events she donates to, which she says touches her heart.
”I just say oh, my gosh. That was so nice. When Make-A-Wish came and got the pizza for a girl who wanted a pizza party for her last wish…it meant a lot to me to be able to do that.”
Alloy also sponsored a recent superhero pizza party for a boy battling leukemia and keeps donation boxes in her pizzeria for her favorite animal rescues. She estimates she raises about $200 for each rescue every week. Not to mention the free year of pizza certificates she donates to Niagara SPCA events. She is truly a Western New York gem.
