Local middle school teacher creates ‘The Closet’ clothing store for less fortunate students, how you can help

A Lackawanna Middle School teacher is going above and beyond her duties as an educator to ensure that her students have access to new and clean clothing. She recently created “The Closet,” a free clothing store at the school that will benefit students who wear the same clothes to school every day and do not have access to new clothing, clothing that fits, and general hygiene supplies.

“I can’t even imagine going to work in dirty clothes, not smelling great, not having bathed recently and going in and feeling confident enough to be in front of a class. I can’t imagine how the students feel. It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” said Lauren Vargovich, sixth grade science teacher.

The Closet would serve as a private place where students can come in and grab what they need without fear of being judged by their peers. Donations of gently used middle school appropriate clothing and shoes and toiletries like toothpaste, soap and deodorant are needed. Donations can be dropped off directly to Lackawanna Middle School, 550 Martin Road, Lackawanna. For more information, you can email Lauren Vargovich at lvargovich@lackawannaschools.org.

You can also make a monetary donation here and put The Closet in the memo and your donation will be sent directly to the cause: www.paypal.me/sweetbuffalorocks.
