Kevin Muscoreil is a regular at Mother’s Restaurant in downtown Buffalo. He loves the food and drinks, but even better…the company. Muscoreil’s favorite bartender and Mother’s longest employee is Sam Millitello, a man who many admire.
“Sam is probably the only individual I know who has managed to maintain a career in the bar profession for decades without taking a drink. He is always quick with a joke (and a light of your smoke when that was a thing) and no one ever has to tell them their name or drink of choice twice. Sam is and always has been a hardworking and consummate professional,” said Muscoreil.
When Muscoreil noticed that his friend wasn’t around as much anymore, Sam confided in him that his wife, Sharon, was having medical problems. Turns out Sharon was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in her head. She is now sightless in one eye and unable to swallow. The only way she can eat is through a feeding tube directly into her stomach. Sam is by her side day and night seeing her needs and assuring that she gets adequate nourishment.
Neither Sam or Sharon have worked in months and with bills piling up, they could really use the money. Muscoreil reached out to the community for help by sharing their story and within 24 hours, $11,000 was donated to help the couple.
“That will certainly go a long way toward easing their burden in the coming weeks and months and letting them focus on health-related issues rather than finances,” said Muscoreil.
Muscoreil hopes people will continue to share and contribute as they can. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.gofundme.com/sharon-and-sam-militello-from-mothers-restaurant.
